Teaching in the Digital Age: Book Study

By Karen Cox | Affiliate Disclosure | Filed Under: Uncategorized

If you were reading this blog last summer, you will probably remember the Book Study of Literacy Beginnings that took place on several early childhood blogs. The title for this summer’s Book Study is Teaching in the Digital Age by Brian Puerling.

The book discusses using technology with Age 3 through Grade 3, with topics on using photographs, rethinking projectors, audio recordings, video, and multi-touch devices (such as iPads). Teaching in the Digital Age is published by one of my favorite education publishers, the Redleaf Press. As soon as I saw this book on the Redleaf Press website, I was really excited because I think it’s a great topic and I’m happy to see a book on this topic geared towards early childhood. Redleaf Press has graciously offered the discount code STUDY to our Book Study readers for 35% off the book if you order it through Redleaf Press. The code expires on August 31, 2012. Just enter the code when prompted for online orders or mention it if you order by phone.

To see a sample of the book, click the “Look Inside” button on the Redleaf site.

The author, Brian Puerling, is a former preschool teacher and is now the Director of Technology Education at Catherine Cook School in Chicago. He has even indicated that he would like to participate in the Book Study discussion!

How the Book Study works:

Order your copy to read along with us.

Follow each of the host blogs, so you don’t miss a chapter.

There are five Book Study host blogs. If you have a blog yourself, you can write your response to each chapter and link up with the host blog on that chapter’s post. If you do not have a blog, not to worry! You are encouraged to participate by writing your thoughts in the comments section of the blogs that host each chapter. The Book Study begins June 6, 2012 and continues until August 8.

The Book Study team for 2012:

Karen of PreKinders (that’s me)
Vanessa Levin of Pre-K Pages
Dr. Jean Feldman of Dr. Jean and Friends
Matt Halpern of Look at My Happy Rainbow
Deborah Stewart of Teach Preschool
Scott Wiley of Brick by Brick

To find all of the information you need, head over to Preschool Spot, the “home base” of the Book Study.
