First Day of School Awards
One of my back to school tips is to give a “First Day of School” award to everyone. Yes, I do mean every child, even those who did not have the best day. Why? The first day of school certificates help build relationships with children and parents, and help establish communication between home and school.
Even if a child didn’t have such a great first day, this is their first experience with school. It’s all new, and it can be intimidating. Consider that every child is doing their best where they are coming from.
Every child has their own personalities and challenges and life experiences. Many are dealing with separation anxiety. Children will react to new situations and new people and places differently.
The first day award will help build positive feelings about school with each parent and child, and will help with this huge transition to school.
If there really is a big issue the first day, you can always give that parent a call to talk about it.
