Squirrel Play Dough Counting Mats

By Karen Cox | Affiliate Disclosure | Filed Under: Forest Theme, Play Dough Math Mats

I hope these Fall themed play dough math mats are not too late in the season for most of you, but I always forget that Fall comes earlier in many places than it does here in Georgia. I still have not seen any Fall colors yet. Wherever you live, I have many more mats on my play dough math mats page.

Print the mats and either laminate them or slip them into clear page protectors. I usually put them in page protectors and hook them together with metal binder rings to make them like a flip book. The top of each mat says, “Give the squirrel [#] nuts.” Students will identify the numeral on each page, and count out the correct number of nuts to place on the mat.

There’s also a toddler mat for children who are not ready for counting yet, but need the fine motor practice. This mat simply says, “Give the squirrel some nuts.”

Squirrel Play Dough Mats

Children can use  play dough to make the nuts by simply rolling the play dough into a ball. You could also use real nuts (acorns or other kinds) — just remember they might roll around a lot! You could use plastic bingo chips as another play dough alternative.
