~Circle Time~
Songs
The Bear Went Over the Mountain
Teddy Bear Picnic
Teddy Bear Freeze
We play the song "The Freeze" and dance our teddy bears to the
beat of the music. When the music stops, the bears (& kids)
must “freeze”.
Teddy Bear Simon Says
The children listen and follow directions as "Simon"
says to touch the bear’s nose, pat the bear's tummy, etc.

~Art~
Teddy Bear Paintings
We use several shades of multicultural paints and a special
"paintbrush" (cotton ball clipped in a clothespin).
The children dab the paint onto their paper, making sure to
make a body, arms, legs, head and ears. Later we add wiggly
eyes, pompom nose, and yarn mouth.

~Fine Motor Skills~
Children use bear cookie cutters and play dough to make Papa
Bear, Mama Bear, and Baby Bear.

~Language Arts~
Brown Bear Book
We read the book Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?,
by Bill Martin, Jr., and make our own version. Each child chooses
a color and an animal they want to draw, and we fill in the
blanks. "Brown Cat, Brown Cat, what do you see? I see an
orange monkey looking at me." All of the pages are put
together to make a class book.
Corduroy Story Retelling
The children stamp a Corduroy stamp on their paper and draw
pictures of things they remember from the story. They dictate
one sentence to a teacher about something Corduroy did in the
book.

~Math~
Gummi Bear Sorting
Children use a paper plate that is divided into six sections.
They sort a bag of Gummi bear candy by color, putting each color
into one section.
Teddy Bear Sorting and Graphing
This is an activity we do on Teddy Bear Day. After we read Goldilocks
and the Three Bears, we sort the children's teddy bears
by size (Papa bear, Mama bear and Baby bear). Then we graph
the bears by size on the floor graph.
Bear Counting
In August, we work on counting and number recognition from 0-2
(or higher for those who are ready). We listen to the story
The Gummi Bear Counting Book. We practice identifying
the numerals, and counting out bear counters. We make our own
number cards to take home using bear stickers and index cards.

~Science and Technology~
We explore our Bears Kids Page at www.prekinders.com/bears_kids.htm.
I read any interesting information on the pages at circle time,
and the children explore on their own at center time.

~Special Day~
Teddy Bear Day
Each child brings a favorite teddy bear to school. At circle
time, everyone introduces their bears by telling the class their
bear's name and something special about the bear.
