Lakeshore Learning Software Review & Giveaway

I was so excited to receive some Lakeshore Learning software to review and offer as a giveaway here. Don’t we all love Lakeshore?!

Lakeshore Giveaway at PreKinders.com

I received 5 games to try out. I thought they were all fantastic for pre-k, and I decided to review the All About Life Science software. The science software has several activities covering a variety of topics:

Lakeshore Software Review

  • Five Senses
  • Animal Homes
  • Habitats
  • Living & Nonliving
  • Mother & Babies
  • Insect or Spider
  • How Many Legs
  • Life Cycles
  • Swim or Fly
  • Plant or Animal

Each topic has a short video the children can watch first. I like these short video clips because research has shown that young children learn more by watching short segments or clips of a video rather than a long video. Videos also allow children to see animals in their real habitat that they otherwise would not have the opportunity to see.

After watching the video clip, children can play the corresponding game. For example, in the Living and Non-Living activity, the video first teaches children about living and non-living things, and in the game, children look at a picture and choose whether it is living or non-living. The little owl encourages the children if they get the right answer or to try again.

This software is great for children to use with a friend at the computer, but I also like to use it as a large group with the computer projector. We can talk about it as we work through the activities together and the class can tell me the answers while I click their choice. The Phonemic Awareness software makes a nice Large Group literacy activity and has 3 activities: rhyming, syllables, and beginning sounds.

The giveaway is for 4 Lakeshore software games:

  1. I teach prek and I purchased and use the Lakeshore Interactive board, Numbers and Count game. It is a great activity for counting and number recognition. Plus the children love it and it makes fun sounds for correct and incorrect answers.

  2. Debra Allen says:

I work in children’s services at a public library. We are putting Play Literacy kits together for patrons to check out or play with in the library. We have purchased many items from Lakeshore and have been very pleased with all. The plastic totes are good quality, strong and kid friendly, as in a public place you need tough, long lasting items. Lakeshores totes were the best I found.
The “Go Away Big Green Monster” set, along with the book w/same name is going into a kit about feelings. I am sure the children that get to play with this kit will enjoy it as much as I have.

  3. I love Lakeshore they always have the coolest things. I have already placed two big orders with them to start up our pre-k classrooms. I have had so much fun shopping. I also love the bilingual section they have it is great! Looking forward to seeing more of the interactive softwear. Thanks!

  4. Janice Yackovich says:

Whenever we visit my in-laws, who live 5 hours away, I always stop at the Roseville Lakeshore store. I feel like a kid in a candy store! My latest favorites are the giant magnetic numbers, patterning & counting boxes and beginning & ending sounds computer games, just to name a few. I am also very happy that Lakeshore participates in Donors Choose, since I’ve been fortunate enough to receive many Lakeshire products from generous donors!

  5. We work with pre-k classrooms and funds are seriously limited. It would be great to have software to share.

  6. I love Lakeshore…the quality of the materials is unbeatable! This year we were able to get 3 tricycles for our playground, which are a hit! We also love the magnetic tiles and the playstix!

  7. Regular dot art painters!

I actually have never been to the lakeshore website. But, I have a 4 year old daughter and another one on the way, so I am really happy to have discovered it, now! I went to the website earlier today after seeing this post, and I have found several items that I am about to buy! I really want the regular dot art painters!! Love the colors. I love the variety: software, arts and crafts, action toys, etc…!

  8. My favorite items from Lakeshore are the musical instruments. Our children at our Preschool love playing them.

I absolutely love all of the materials Lakeshore learning offers! This giveaway will help with integrating technology into my classroom. I teach prek in a low SES school with very limited materials. I currently have a student with autism who thrives on anything related to our mimio/smart board. Having this package will help increase his interest during our circle time and whole group routine ,as well as small group center instruction.

  12. I love the number puzzles from Lakeshore! I used them with my 4 children and continue to love them for my preschool class. Their quality is unbeatable!
